VILLAGE OF BROWN DEER, Wis. --
A 77-year-old female is in critical condition after a fire broke out in her condo.
It happened at 12:30 a.m. in the Village of Brown Deer.
The North Shore Fire Department said the fire broke out inside a second-story unit.
There are 24 units in the building.
Residents started to evacuate before fire crews arrived.
The building had both heat and smoke detectors inside the complex.
The North Shore Fire Department said the fire this morning was caused by careless use of smoking materials.
People in two units were displaced because of water damage.
The damage is estimated at $75,000.
