CARMICHAELS, Pa. --
A massive fire devoured three buildings and threatened two others in Greene County Thursday night.
SLIDESHOW: Carmichaels Fires Tears Up 3 Buildings
Hours after firefighters were first at the scene of a house fire along North Market Street in Carmichaels, crews were still trying to put out the blaze.
"It was so far ahead of us. It was cold, getting organized for the attack. It was that far ahead, when we got here, we didn't want to put anybody inside." said firefighter Bill Groves of the Carmichaels Fire Department.
Neighbors said flames, which were first reported at about 5 p.m., could be seen from at least a quarter of a mile away.
"My son-in-law come running in the house, saying that the neighbor's house is on fire, so I come running out, jumping the fence, because there's two gentlemen who live in the back, where I can see the flames coming out," said neighbor Melodie Berard.
While three buildings, which included apartments and a pet grooming shop, were destroyed , people who live in the community are thankful that no one was hurt.
"Just kind of in disbelief. Flames shooting everywhere out of this building here, and by the time I come around the front, the wind was blowing so hard it spread to this building, and it just went up in flames." said Berard.
The Salvation Army and American Red Cross is helping the six people who were displaced by the blaze.
