WOODLAWN --

An overnight fire in Woodlawn left behind far more damage than the flames caused.

The fire started shortly after 2 a.m. at the Flushing machine plant in the 400 block of Glendale-Milford Road when a piece of equipment malfunctioned.

The fire was contained to that piece of equipment.

But a Woodlawn deputy fire chief told News 5 that there was a pigment or dye ink that contaminated all the firefighters' gear and hoses when they entered the building.

The cost to Woodlawn alone is about $55,000 because the equipment cannot be cleaned or repaired.

In addition, the deputy chief said, firefighters from Forest Park, Sycamore Twp., Springfield Twp., Lockland, Sharonville, and Reading who fought the fire or entered the building will likely have to dispose of their gear as well.

One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.
