RICHMOND, Indiana --

Richmond's fire chief has some bad news for the city.

Fire Chief Mike Crawley says he will tell the city council tonight that Fire Station 6 must tentatively close on March 16.

Crawley says the closing is needed to trim the budget.

Nine firefighters will be moved to other fire stations. Crawley says he has no plans to cut firefighters at this point.

Fire Station 6 was built in 1954 and provides protection for the northwest side of Richmond.

The area will be divided up among three other fire stations.
