A captain at the Ann Arbor Fire Department was fired after he threatened to shoot colleagues and a handgun was found in his car, city officials said.

The Ann Arbor News reported Chris Noonan was terminated Dec. 26 for making multiple verbal threats against his co-workers.

Several of his co-workers made formal complaints and police searched Noonan's car and found a handgun.

Police Chief Barnett Jones told the paper that case is being investigated and will be sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office for possible charges.

Ann Arbor firefighter Carl Hein said Noonan was extremely proud of being a member of the fire service.

"I'm surprised that this has happened because of his pride in the fire service and what it stood for,'' Hein said.
