MOUNT. OLIVER, Pa. --

A fire started around 8 p.m. Thursday at a two-story home along Margaret Street in Mount Oliver.

An elderly woman, her two sons and a family dog were able to escape the fire with no injuries.

Neighboring homes were also evacuated, although none suffered any major damage.

Witnesses reported seeing flames shooting out of second-floor windows.

It took firefighters about an hour before they could bring the fire under control but not before the home suffered extensive damage to the upper floors.

The cause is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping the residents of the burned-out home.
