Colorado Man Escapes Fire, Goes Back Inside, Dies

The man went back inside the house for some unknown reason.

SECURITY, Colo. --

A man died in an overnight fire in Security Thursday morning.

Robert Emerson and his wife Carrie were inside their home just southwest of the Colorado Springs airport when the fire started just before 2 a.m., firefighters said.

Robert Emerson was able to get himself and his wife out of the home after the fire started but went back inside for some unknown reason, reported KRDO. His body was found inside late Wednesday morning.

It took about 45 minutes for 35 firefighters to stop the fire. The house was a complete loss.

The El Paso Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are aiding with the investigation.

No cause has yet been determined, but Carrie Emerson mentioned that the homeowners had been having electrical problems at the residence since they bought it in April.
