JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --
A woman was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning, according to Jacksonville Fire Rescue.
JFRD responded to the fire in the 800 block of South Shores Road about 8:30 a.m. Officials said a man was covered in soot outside the house, trying to get back in. He told firefighters that there was a woman still inside.
Firefighters went into the house and pulled the woman out. Both were transported to an area hospital.
The unidentified woman, 36, died at the hospital. The man, Robert Levan, 54, has since been released.
The fire is under investigation.
