The Northeastern States Fire Consortium has launched an effort to fuel congressional support for future legislation increasing federal funding for state fire training.

According to the group, Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) is willing to introduce legislation that would either increase or redirect funding if addition congressional representatives are willing to cosponsor the bill with her.

The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs is currently in the process of drafting a letter to its state delegation to ask for support.

Both the National Fire Academy Alumni Association and Connecticut Fire Department Instructors Association are also on board to drum up support for such legislation.

The NSFC is asking fire organizations from across the country to contact their representatives in Congress and request that they help support and cosponsor the legislation. The delegates can be asked to contact Chris Bigelow in Lowey's D.C. office at 202-225-6506 for additional information.

Fire organizations can also e-amil NSFC Project Coordinator Raymond Kiernan at [email protected].
