HOBOKEN -- A fourth-alarm fire burned through two large apartment buildings in Hoboken this morning.

Eyewitness News is told the fire burned through the third, fourth and fifth floors of 1203 Washington Street just after 1:30 a.m. Heavy flames could be seen shooting out of the windows and through the roof.

Fire officials said one resident was rescued from a balcony, and treated for injuries. The rest of the residents were able to get out by themselves.

In all, nearly 40 families were reportedly displaced, and some of them went to a nearby YMCA for shelter. Eight apartments were destroyed by the flames.

Two firefighters, 1 police officer and a resident suffered minor injuries, according to hospital officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
