House Fire Kills Pennsylvania Woman

Firefighters said despite their efforts, fire engulfed the house, collapsing the entire building.

WHITEHALL, Pa. --

A fire in Whitehall early Sunday morning left one house completely destroyed and the homeowner dead.

Firefighters said they were called to the 1100 block of Varner Road just after 1 a.m.

They said despite their efforts fire engulfed the house, collapsing the entire building.

They said while they were sifting through the rubble, they found the body of a woman in the basement.

The medical examiner's office identified the woman as Ursela Holewinski, 66.

Investigators said she lived alone in the house.
