ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --

A fire Saturday morning destroyed a mobile home and caused the death of its occupant, the first fire fatality in unincorporated Orange County since 2006.

The fire took place around 7:20am on Center Street, just outside Winter Garden.

An Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman said flames were coming through the roof of the single wide structure when they arrived just after 7:30.

Firefighters said that only one man lived inside the mobile home, and he died in the blaze.

No smoke alarm was heard when they arrived, so fire personnel said they would go back to the area Saturday afternoon to hand out smoke detectors to the residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
