LAWTON, Okla. --

A man trapped in a trench for 14 hours has been rescued. Fire crews had to remove a dirt boulder that was pinning the man. He was flown by helicopter to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center for treatment.

A Comanche County spokesman said the 29-year-old man was trapped after a sewer-line trench collapsed just before noon at a housing construction site near Southwest 82nd Street and Lee Boulevard in southwest Lawton.

Lawton fire crews assessed the situation and called Oklahoma City firefighters for help. A special operations unit of two deputy fire chiefs were flown to the scene.

The man was put on oxygen as crews dug a parallel trench to extricate him. He has not been identified.
