ROSSBURG, Ohio --

It was a bitter sweet dedication of a new home for the Rossburg Fire Department in Darke County over the weekend.

The firefighter who was among the driving force behind the project was honored posthumous.

The building might look somewhat familiar, as it is the former Smith Chevrolet dealership. The building is now the new fire station for the Rossburg Fire Department.

During the celebration, you can hear the name of the late Jack Stewart who was a 19-year-old veteran of the fire department. He passed away following a brief illness just seven weeks shy of the dedication of Fire Station No. 17.

Stewart's family was honored by the Rossburg department, Darke County Firefighters Assocation and the Ansonia Fire Department.

During the dedication of the flag pole, a memorial in Stewart's memory was unveiled and will be the centerpiece of a memorial flower garden on the grounds of the fire station.

During the dedication State Sen. Keith Faber called volunteer firefighters, police officers and those serving in the military "our heroes."
