NEW YORK -- A fire in a residential Brooklyn high-rise Wednesday afternoon that was aggravated by high winds has left ten people injured, including five firefighters.
Officials say the blaze broke out on the fifth floor of an apartment building at 301 Sutter Avenue in Brownsville.
Three of the firefighters are in serious condition.
Officials say the windy weather made fighting the fire more difficult.
"The main problem we had is about 25-mile-an-hour gusts pushing into the apartment forcing the heat and the smoke directly opposite the men moving in with the hose line," said FDNY Chief Dan Butler. "This caused non-life threatening burns to the first five members into the fire apartment."
The fire broke out around 2 p.m. was knocked down in about a half hour.
