LOS ANGELES --

A Los Angeles firefighter dangling from a helicopter cable brought an injured dog to safety after the animal was stranded some 200 feet down an embankment near Beverly Glen.

Emergency crews were sent to the 1900 block of North Bel Air Road about 7:30 a.m. after the owner of the 100-pound animal reported the problem, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters determined that an airlift was needed to rescue the animal from the location, which was about 200 feet down an embankment.

The dog was placed in a harness and was hoisted to safety, accompanied by a firefighter, shortly before 9 a.m., Humphrey said.
