HAMPTON, Pa. --

Four people are homeless after an overnight fire in Hampton Township.

The flames started around 11 p.m. Wednesday on a hillside off Harts Run Road.

There were five cottages on the hillside. One was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters said cold conditions made it more difficult to battle the blaze. Crews used a guide rope to reach the flames.

One firefighter was injured on the slippery steps and hillside and suffered an ankle sprain. The firefighter was rushed to Passavant Hospital for treatment. There is no word on the firefighters name or condition.

A Hampton Township fire truck also slid on the icy road leading to the cottages and had to be towed from the scene.
