WASHINGTON --
Firefighters in Prince George's County on Monday battled a three-alarm blaze at a condo at 11212 Cherry Hill Road in Beltsville, Md.
The fire started at 8:45 a.m. and burned for more than an hour, News4's Tracee Wilkins reported.
Officials said the fire started on the second floor and spread to the third floor and roof. Firefighters said about 18 units in two buildings were affected.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the building was engulfed in flames. Firefighters said high winds fanned the blaze and made it more difficult to control.
No residents were injured. A resident said she was eating breakfast when she saw the flames and rushed to alert her neighbors, Wilkins reported.
Residents said fire alarms were not working because power went out in the building Sunday night and had not been restored.
Two firefighters sent out mayday calls saying they were injured in the blaze. They were taken to Washington Hospital Center for treatment, and a fire department spokesperson said they are in good condition.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze, which they think may have been started by a candle, based on interviews with residents.
