MILTON, Mass. --
Fire crews responded to the scene of a four-alarm fire at a large, $2 million Victorian mansion in Milton early Tuesday morning.
The blaze at 685 Brush Hill Road could be seen for some distance, with black smoke billowing into the sky. The posh neighborhood is just north of the Curry College campus.
Fire Chief Malcolm Larson said the fire was started by cigarette smoking on the second floor of the home about 5:30 a.m. He said an older woman had been living in the house, but escaped unharmed. He said she had been advised by the town fire prevention officer that it was not safe to stay in the house.
Some witnesses said they thought the home has been vacant and up for sale for some time. They said the home is known as the Boyle Mansion.
