SOUTH CHARLESTON, Ohio --
Authorities said two people were forced to jump out of a second-story window as flames tore through their farmhouse near the village of South Charleston.
The fire happened just before 3 a.m. Thursday in the 4900 block of Dolly Barden Road in Clark County.
Fire officials said a man and a woman who were in the house at the time the fire happened called 911 and reported that they were trapped on the second floor. However, when first responders arrived at the scene, the two had managed to get out of the house.
Authorities said when firefighters arrived at the scene, smoke was coming from the front of the house and then flames began shooting from the rear of the house. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control in about 20 to 30 minutes.
Fire officials said they believe the man and the woman broke an upstairs window in order to jump to safety. The two were taken to a local hospital for evaluation of their non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire investigators said this is the second time since January that they have been called to this house. They said an electrical problem sparked a fire the first time.
Authorities said the house may be considered a total loss. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
