HONOLULU --

A teenager was critically injured Tuesday afternoon after falling 40-feet at a Kalihi Valley hiking spot.

At about 2:30 p.m., the victim was climbing up the side of a waterfall at an area known as Ice Pond when he slipped and fell onto rocks then into the water, officials said.

Honolulu firefighters pulled the victim out at about 3:15 p.m. and flew him out to Likelike Highway, where Emergency Medical Services personnel waited for him. They treated him and took him to Queen's Medical Center for further treatment.
