HOUSTON --
Two firefighters were injured while putting out a two-alarm fire at a northeast Houston home on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston firefighters said flames engulfed a home on Linder Street near Sayers Street at about 7:30 p.m.
Investigators said the two firefighters were hurt when part of the roof caved in.
"They weren't trapped, but they just got fire pushed back on them," District Chief Tommy Dowdy said.
One firefighter had respiratory problems and was taken to a hospital. He was last listed in serious condition.
The other firefighter suffered burns on his hands. He was treated at a hospital and released.
Three people were inside the home when the fire started. They escaped without injury.
"An elderly couple stay there," witness Samantha Adams said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
