A Bladensburg, Md. firefighter who fell off of an engine en route to a structure fire on Jan. 21 was not wearing his seat belt during the incident, according to the department's report.
Firefighter Ryan Raneiri fell through a door of the apparatus, which opened while the driver was making a left turn, the report says.
Raneiri landed on the street and crawled to the curb to avoid being hit. The crew notified the driver, who stopped the engine.
He was transported to the Prince George's Hospital Trauma Center where he was treated and released, with no serious injuries and is currently recovering at home.
"We are very fortunate this time but it does bear witness and proof as to why seat belts must be worn," according to a statement made in the report.
