Fire Sweeps Through Two Homes in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga --
An early morning fire destroyed two homes and damaged two others in one of Atlanta's oldest neighborhoods. The blaze, which broke out shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday, happened in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, not far from the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site.
No one was hurt. Homes at 94 and 96 Hogue St., NE were destroyed. One was vacant, the other was an occupied duplex. Flames spread to two other houses on the street, but firemen were able to save them. Investigators haven't said yet what caused the fire.
Neighborhood residents say they've complained to Atlanta city officials about vacant homes in the area. They worry that the homes can be magnets for vagrants or criminals. So far, they say, they've gotten little response from the city.
