KANSAS CITY, Kan. --
Four construction workers were rescued Thursday afternoon after they became trapped in a tunnel that goes from Turkey Creek to the Kansas River.
Authorities said the workers, who were working on a flood-control project at the time, were trying to go through the tunnel in a boat. But there was too much water in the tunnel and the boat capsized.
Water rescue crews were able to reach the workers and pull them safety. The workers are reported to be in good shape.
Authorities said the workers regularly use tunnel to get from the creek to the river. Water levels are higher because of heavy rains in recent days.
