WASHINGTON --

D.C. firefighters rescued a man from a burning house in Chinatown on Tuesday morning.

Responders arrived at the three-story row house in the 500 block of H Street Northwest at about 9:30 a.m. They found heavy fire in the basement near the back of the house.

A man was trapped on the roof and could not get down, fire officials said.

Firefighters stood on a 30-foot ladder to rescue the man. A firefighter climbed the ladder and helped the man down. He was not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
