Fire destroyed part of a church in Osceola County early Monday morning.

Firefighters said when they arrived at the New Faith Community Church, formally known as the Holopaw Baptist Church on Holopaw Road (see map) in Saint Cloud, flames were shooting through the roof of the assembly hall.

Pastor Tim Allen told Eyewitness News that a church member who was also a firefighter, called him to tell him about the fire. Church members built Fellowship Hall where the fire occurred, in 1999 themselves and used it for children's bible study and to prepare meals, it also sheltered them during the 2004 hurricanes.

"A lot of people will be upset, but it has served us well. It isn't that old but it's quite a loss," he said.

The church's business files were stored in the now gutted building. Pastor Allen said he was ready to begin rebuilding.

State Fire Marshal investigators were on scene investigating the cause of the fire.

Investigators said there were no injuries reported, however the Osceola Fire Department was calling the incident suspicious.
