DETROIT, Mich. --

A 20-year-old woman brought a newborn baby girl to a Detroit fire station at Grand River Avenue and Six Mile Road Thursday.

The baby was given to an EMS worker.

The woman originally claimed she found the baby at an abandoned house on Blackstone Street, around the corner from the fire station. But after talking to firefighters and police officers, she admitted the baby was hers.

Authorities said the baby girl had been born at about 7:30 a.m. and is doing well at Children's Hospital.

Detroit police said the mother will not be charged because she took the baby to the fire station -- considered a safe place until the Safe Haven Law.
