DENVER --

Dozens of firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire in a building at 5925 E. Evans Avenue, near Holly Street, early Wednesday morning.

"The Fire had a pretty good head start on the crews. It was through the roof when they arrived," said Denver Assistant Fire Chief Joe Hart.

Crews were called to the fire just before 1:30 a.m.

It appeared the building was under construction or renovation, said Hart.

It did not appear anyone was inside at the time. However, crews have not been able to get inside to conduct a search.

But we are pretty confident no one is inside," said Hart.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
