A battalion chief with the Shreveport Fire Department was critically injured over the weekend when he fell from a fire truck after the Krewe of Gemini Mardi Gras parade.
Tommy Adams, 52, was securing materials on the top of a ladder truck that had been used in the parade when he apparently lost his balance and fell 10-15 feet, Fire Chief Brian Crawford said. The truck was parked at the end of the parade route and was about to be placed back in service.
Adams stopped breathing and lost a pulse enroute to the hospital and was revived by paramedics, Crawford said.
Adams suffered a severe cervical vertebra fracture, Crawford said, and was in an intensive care unit at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital.
The Fire Department is investigating how Adams fell from the truck, which was parked on Preston Street. Adams is a 31-year Fire Department veteran.
