LAKE COUNTY, Fla. --
Lake County stationed two firefighter medics and a thousand-gallon fire truck at the Value Place hotel on SR-50 in Clermont.
Officials created the hotel fire station because of problems with response times. It took firefighters up to 12 minutes to get to homes in east Clermont. The new setup is expected to trim the response time down to five minutes.
"Firefighters like challenges, and this one will be a good one for them," said James Dickerson of the Lake County Fire Department.
The hotel room costs nearly $1,000 a month. Two firefighter medics will be there 24 hours a day.
