ELYRIA, Ohio --

The city of Elyria is facing a projected $3 million deficit this year, and the mayor said he plans to lay off at least a dozen firefighters.

More cuts are planned for the police department and the parks and recreation department.

The ice rink closed and the city pools might not open this summer.

Residents are concerned about cuts to safety forces.

"We're going to have a difficult year 12 to 18 months and we'll make the appropriate cuts and come back strong as a result of this," said Mayor Bill Grace.

The mayor will give more information about the job and pay cuts during Monday's city council meeting.
