SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
A blaze at a Sacramento apartment complex displaced 16 families early Wednesday, fire officials said.
The three-alarm fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. at the River Terrace complex at 2591 Millcreek Drive in the Natomas area.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the second floor of the two-story building, said Capt. Jim Doucette of the Sacramento Fire Department.
The Red Cross was called in to provide emergency housing and food.
No injuries were reported.
Doucette said arson investigators have not yet found a cause.
"Investigators are not able to rule out smoking, or any other open flame as the cause," Doucette said in a news release. "There are no indications that this fire was intentionally set."
Resident Eloisa Munoz was safe but upset by the incident.
"We're OK," she said. "We're just scared and startled."
