BROWN COUNTY, Ind. --

Sheriff's deputies had to pull a man from a burning Brown County home early Friday.

Brown County sheriff's deputies responded to the home at 1655 State Road 46 West near the west gates of Brown County State Park just before 4 a.m.

Two people had already escaped from the home, which had flames shooting out of the roof, but they told police their 53-year-old son was still inside.

Two deputies made their way to the second level of the home, where they found Mark Badgely lying on the floor at the top of the stairwell.

They were able to pull him from the home. He was airlifted to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis with severe burns.

His parents -- Robert and Helen Badgely -- were taken by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital.

The house was said to be a total loss. Investigators did not yet know what had sparked the blaze.
