BOSTON --

Boston firefighters responded to the scene of a large fire in Dorchester before dawn on Monday, quelling the blaze even as a family of seven narrowly escaped the flames.

The four-alarm fire broke out at a three-family home on Powellton Road just before 5 a.m., fire officials said.

The house was occupied by two adults and five children. They got out safely but the front porch collapsed on firefighters who responded to the scene.

It appeared everyone made it out safely, but there was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze. Investigators are looking in to whether it was intentionally set because it began outside the newly-renovated house.
