ATLANTA --
A two-alarm fire heavily damaged two homes early Wednesday morning in Northwest Atlanta.
The fire started in an abandoned house near the intersection of Kennedy and Vine Streets around 3 a.m.
Despite the efforts of dozens of firefighters the fire spread to a nearby home.
"Aw, man this thing was blazing out of control," said neighbor Eric Parks.
When the fire spread to the second house, Parks alerted the family living there.
"I was riding my bike and just happened to see the fire; I went to bamming on the door," said Parks. "They finally realized something was burning and I got 'em out of there."
An Atlanta Fire Department official said Parks probably saved that family.
"The fire had gotten up in the attic and was threatening that structure," said Battalion Chief Gerry Rusinsk of the Atlanta Fire Department.
There's no word on how the fire started.
