COBB COUNTY, Ga. --
Firefighters rescued two elderly women trapped in their Cobb County condos by a fast-moving fire Wednesday afternoon.
The fire destroyed one building at The Willows at the River project on River Look Parkway off Columns Drive.
One resident was trapped on his balcony and yelling for help when a neighbor threw him a rope. The trapped man fastened the rope to the railing and slid down to safety.
Firefighters and Cobb County police officers went to each condo warning residents about the fire. At some units they kicked in locked doors to rescue cats and dogs left home alone by residents who were at work.
Three residents were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Fire officials said they believed the fire started in a ground floor unit.
