MILWAUKEE --
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that one person died in an industrial accident at Monarch Corp. at about 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The machining and fabrication plant is located at 7050 N. 76th Street on the city's northwest side.
Workers said a heavy steel plate fell on a welder, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, workers had used a crane to lift the metal off of the 40-year-old man, the Milwaukee Fire Department said.
The company president said they've "never had anything like this happen."
"We're very close. We're very family oriented. We're a big team. We couldn't do it without each other," Monarch Corp. President David Mitchell said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been contacted, and Milwaukee police are handling the investigation.
