BRISTOL, Va. -- One lane of Interstate 81 in Bristol, Virginia was closed Tuesday morning after a tanker truck caught fire triggering a "small explosion," police said.
The tanker truck has been removed from the side of Interstate 81 at Exit 7. All interstate lanes are open.
The Bristol Herald Courier's David Crigger reports there is a debris field around the explosion site, and guests at a nearby hotel are finding damaged cars in the parking lot.
The truck caught fire around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday on the southbound side of I-81 near Exit 7 in Bristol, Virginia. Police said the tanker was empty, but there still was a small explosion.
The driver wasn't hurt.
