FORT WORTH, Texas --

A large pile of wooden pallets on fire at a pallet company in far south Fort Worth is under control, firefighters said.

The towering flames challenged firefighters at Metroplex Wood Products in the 2400 block of West Risinger Road where fire hydrants are blocks away.

Several roads were shut down, including Crowley Road at Risinger Road. While the fire could be seen from Interstate 35W, traffic on the highway was flowing in both directions, Gridlock Buster Tammy Dombeck said.

The fire was contained to several pallets, investigators said. The blaze was acting like a controlled bonfire and no structures were being threatened, fire officials said.

Fire investigators are not sure how the blaze started.
