MILLERSVILLE, Md. --
Sixteen people are without a home after a two-alarm fire raced through their Anne Arundel County apartment complex.
Anne Arundel County fire officials said that the fire broke out about 11:30 p.m. on Friday at the Millpond Apartments in the 600 block of Millstream Court in Millersville.
Fire officials said when crews arrived they immediately requested a second alarm when they found fire shooting through the roof of a four-story garden-style apartment building. The fire was contained to the apartment unit where it started, which was on the fourth floor, but not before apartments on the three floors below sustained water damage. According to officials, the fire started accidentally in the kitchen area of that unit.
The Red Cross is assisting three or four families that were displaced by the fire. No one was reported hurt in the blaze. The fire was placed under control at about midnight.
