Racine firefighters found the victim in a second-floor bedroom

RACINE, Wis. --

One person is dead after a house fire in Racine.

The Racine Fire Department said a 911 caller reported smoke coming from a duplex on Kinzie Avenue and Chicago Street at 9:20 p.m. Friday.

Investigators said several people got out of the home as the fire department arrived at the scene.

The fire department said firefighters encountered extreme heat, fire and heavy smoke conditions.

Firefighters found the victim in a second-floor bedroom and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Investigators say the home had working smoke detectors.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
