NEW BOSTON, N.H. --

Emergency workers had an unusual rescue in New Boston Friday night after two horses fell into a backyard swimming pool.

Coal and Zoey got loose from their barn and wandered onto the pool cover.

The horses broke through and were trapped in a section of the pool that is 7 feet deep.

New Boston and Francestown firefighters attached ropes and straps to the horses. It took 20 men to carefully pull them to safety.

The veterinarian says both Zoey and Coal are recovering and should be fine.

Rescue workers say this is the first horse rescue in New Boston they can remember.
