DALLAS --

Firefighters said a 76-year-old woman is dead after a house fire in South Oak Cliff early Monday morning.

The fire broke out at about 5 a.m. in the 2900 block of Bardwell Avenue, officials said. Firefighters said they had trouble accessing the house because of burglar bars on each window and door.

Firefighters gained entry and found Velma Miller in the bathtub. Firefighters said the home -- where Miller lived by herself -- is a total loss.

Officials said one of Miller's family members was transported to the hospital for an unknown reason.
