BOSTON --

Crews battled a five-alarm fire in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Monday morning.

The fire broke out in an occupied triple-decker on Colonial Avenue at about 10 a.m.

"I was sleeping and I went and woke up everybody. I woke up the neighbors," one first-floor resident said.

"I woke up and there was smoke everywhere. Smoke in the hall. It was getting bad, not getting better, so I just left the apartment," said resident Shelby Andrews.

Residents said they think the fire started in the basement.

"The third floor was clear and the second floor was clear. It was once we got to the first floor, it was black. I don't know how it started. It had to be in the basement or in the first two floors," resident Janice Clark said.

One firefighter was taken from the scene on a stretcher, but no serious injuries were reported in the fire.
