SILVERDALE, Wash. --

Fire crews arrived at a Kitsap County apartment building to find a woman in a third-story unit dangling from her window as flames raced through her apartment, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The two-alarm fire at the building on Northwest Princeton Lane in Silverdale erupted shortly after 6 a.m., fire crews said.

The victim told fire officials she awoke to the sound of her smoke detector going off and tried to climb out the window to escape the smoke and flames.

Fire crews rescued the woman with a ladder while she clung to a curtain while dangling outside her third-floor apartment.

Fire officials said the blaze at Wellington Apartments was mostly contained to one unit.

The woman was transported to a hospital to be examined.

Her condition was not immediately known.
