INDIANAPOLIS --

A church that had been undergoing renovations was destroyed by fire Tuesday evening.

Someone saw the fire at the These Are They church at 28th Street and Sherman Drive, ran to a nearby fire station and told firefighters at about 7:30 p.m., officials said.

No injuries were reported. Officials estimated the damage at about $250,000.

"I thank and praise the Lord we weren't here -- that's what's going through my mind," said Demetrice Merriweather, wife of the church's pastor. "And the Lord is still good, and he's in the blessing business."

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Members said the church had undergone renovations over the past year.

"Whatever took place, God is going to take care of the situation," said Victoria Bennett, a youth pastor at the church. "And we'll be having Bible study over at our house tomorrow. We'll be crowded, but we'll be home."
