NEWINGTON, N.H. --
The state Fire Marshal's Office said Newington firefighters did their jobs at a house fire last month.
Neighbors had questioned the response of the firefighters during the July 18 fire that destroyed a home on Newington Road. Severe storms had moved through that day, and the Newington fire chief admitted firefighters were already on another weather-related call when the fire happened. The fire was caused by a lightning strike.
Monday night, concerned residents met with the Board of Fire Engineers. They said response time was slow and that firefighters had trouble getting water to the scene.
The state Fire Marshal's Office investigated and released its report Monday night. It said fire crews arrived in eight minutes and did their jobs under challenging weather conditions.
