PLAINFIELD, Ind. --
A worker was burned and a firefighter was hospitalized when a semitrailer caught fire outside a Plainfield warehouse Friday afternoon, police said.
The fire started just after 3:30 p.m. at the Whirlpool warehouse at 2801 Air West Blvd.
Witnesses said they heard explosions coming from inside the trailer, which was loaded with aerosol cans, 6News' Cheryl Jackson reported. The trailer then caught fire and blaze spread to several other semitrailers and a nearby building.
"All of a sudden I heard a ka-boom and you just saw the roof burning up...And whatever he had in the front, like aerosol cans, those started coming right out of the roof," said truck driver Dwayne Hunsinger.
A worker was transported to Wishard Hospital with third-degree burns, police said. There was a discrepancy Friday evening whether the injured worker was driving the semitrailer or operating a forklift at the warehouse. The worker was released Friday evening.
A firefighter was also transported to a hospital after he or she was overcome by the heat. The firefighter was released Friday evening.
