Hazmat Scare Evacuates Atlanta Hospital

A woman took her sick child to the emergency room and a bag of chemicals with them.

ATLANTA --

A hazmat situation at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta caused a partial evacuation of the hospital.

Around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, officials said a woman took her sick child to the emergency room and a bag of chemicals with them.

The woman said she brought the chemicals along because to show doctors what she believed was the source of her childs illness.

Officials said the bad of chemicals made four hospital employees sick too.

Hospital officials said they removed the chemicals from the emergency room and took them to a loading dock until DeKalb County firefighters arrived.

We suited up in our level a suits and made entry into the loading dock area so we could try to identify what the product was, said DeKalb County fire captain Eric Jackson.

An inspection revealed the chemicals were used for swimming pool maintenance.

Officials said no one was seriously hurt and the four employees are said to be ok.
